The First Retrospective of Mihai Teodor Olteanu at the Maria Theresia Bastion: 50 Years of Turmoil, Truth, and Color
The Cupola ProArte Association invites the Timișoara public to an exceptional cultural event: the first major retrospective exhibition of master Mihai Teodor Olteanu, renowned as the “Painter of the Revolution.” The exhibition will be hosted within the historic space of the Maria Theresia Bastion, from April 1 to April 14, 2026.
Under the motto “Five Decades Between the Silence of the Canvas and the Cry of Color,” the exhibition brings together a rare selection of works tracing the artist’s complete trajectory. The event marks an absolute premiere: the unveiling of the “Golden Archive”—canvases from the 1980s, laden with the rigor and metaphors of spiritual survival under the former regime, exhibited here in this formula for the very first time.
The official opening (Vernissage) will take place on Friday, April 3, 2026, starting at 6:00 PM.
The event is envisioned as an evening of gratitude and rediscovery through beauty, fostering a unique encounter between art and medicine.
The guest speakers opening this event will be:
- Mrs. Ruxandra Maria ADAM – who will deliver a welcoming address and emphasize the importance of preserving and promoting local cultural heritage;
- Prof. Univ. Dr. Ioan Sporea (Special Guest) – a renowned medical specialist, who will propose a profound dialogue on the therapeutic role of art and “Healing Through Beauty”;
- Master Mihai Teodor Olteanu – who will share the untold stories behind his early works and guide the audience through the stages of his creative turmoil.
The exhibition itinerary proposes an evocative transition from the “Roots” section (debut works) toward the “Light” section, characterized by the vibrant chromatic explosions that define the master’s contemporary style.
